December is here. For the next few weeks, revel in the sounds of Christmas tunes and crackling fires, the aromas of pine trees and sugar cookies and the warm, fuzzy feelings of holiday cheer. Gather friends and family and celebrate the season with these Jefferson County events.

Holiday Walk
Address: Downtown Evergreen

The scoop: Throw on an extra layer and wander the sidewalks of Evergreen during the 26th Annual Holiday Walk. Sip hot cider, smell the roasting chestnuts and test your creativity with holiday-themed crafts. Businesses will stay open late for holiday shoppers. Caroling starts at 5:30 p.m. in Beau Jo’s parking lot, 28186 Colorado 74. This event is free for all ages.

Wine Tasting and Shopping

The scoop: At this pot luck-style event hosted by The Bean & The Leaf and Luna’s Mandala, you can browse a variety of wares, listen to music, snack and socialize. Items such as gourmet coffees and teas, local honey, jewelry, clothing and beetle-kill wood pieces will be available for purchase. Bring a bottle of wine and an appetizer to share.

Westminster Holiday Lighting Ceremony

The scoop: Watch as City Hall lights up with holiday spirit (and thousands of holiday lights). Welcome December while enjoying musical performances, refreshments, hay rides, a bonfire and a visit with Santa.

Saturdays with Santa
Address: Olde Town Square, 57th Avenue and Olde Wadsworth Boulevard, Arvada

The scoop: Get your wish list ready because Santa is coming to town three Saturdays in a row. Bring a camera to take a free photo with Saint Nick, and bring coats or canned food for donation. There will be free hot chocolate and holiday entertainment.

Holiday Celebration
Address: The Green, 7101 W. 38th Ave., Wheat Ridge

The scoop: The city of Wheat Ridge is teaming up with Localworks for an official tree lighting. Santa will be there, and so will crafts, hot cocoa and cookies, carriage rides, reindeer, holiday performers, carolers and more.

Winter Solstice at Bear Creek Lake Park

The scoop: Welcome the first day of winter by joining the city of Lakewood at Bear Creek Lake Park for a short, nighttime hike. Afterward, stick around to roast marshmallows and witness the burning of the yule log. BYOM (bring your own mug) to enjoy a warm beverage. This event costs $2 per person, and registration for the hike ends Dec. 18.

Holiday Handbells and Chamber Strings at the Colorado Christian University Music Center

The scoop: The holidays would seem strange without music. Get your fill of holiday tunes and cheer as Colorado Christian University’s choir sings the classics. The show includes chamber string music and costs $10 for adults, $25 for families and $5 for ages 60 and older, students and CCU faculty/staff. The event is free for current CCU students and alumni.
