The Rockies added four players to their 40-man roster Monday, ensuring that those four will be protected during the Rule 5 draft during next month’s winter meetings.

The players are left-handed pitcher Sam Howard, right-hander Jesus Tinoco, outfielder Yonathan Daza and catcher Chris Rabago.

The Rockies now have three open spots on the 40-man roster.

Howard, 24, had a productive 2017 season at Double-A Hartford and Triple-A Albuquerque. He likely will begin the 2018 season at Triple-A and he gives the Rockies some potential rotation depth.  Howard went 1-4 with a 2.33 ERA in nine Double-A starts and 4-4 with a 3.32 ERA in 15 games (14 starts) at Triple-A.

Tinoco, 22, finished 11-4 with a 4.67 ERA in 24 starts for High-A Lancaster.

Daza, 23, hit .341 with three home runs and 66 RBIs, and also stole 31 bases in 125 games for Lancaster.  He played primarily in center field.

Rabago, 24, hit .272 with 43 RBIs and 25 stolen bases in 89 games with Lancaster.
